Review Jessica Lopa, Jersey Family Fun, November 2014

I don’t know about you but as the holidays get close, and by close I mean as early as October, we start playing holiday music in the house and in the car. My kids love putting on holiday CDs, listening to festive music, and dancing while singing along. On Rachel Sumner’s Jingle All the Way, the amazing vocal stylings of Rachel Sumer will add even more excitement and joy to any household this holiday season. The collection consists of original songs and beloved classics that you are sure to love. It’s the perfect CD to get the entire family up and singing!

Why do we LOVE Rachel Sumner’s Jingle All the Way?
• Upbeat! The songs on Jingle All the Way are upbeat, festive holiday songs that get kids up and dancing. My boys moved all about the living room as we listened to all their favorite songs!
• Perfect for sing-alongs! I love when a CD offers selections that are easy to sing-along to. Since so many tracks are well-known classics, it was easy for my boys and I to belt out the lyrics while dancing around the house.
• Amazing vocals! Rachel Sumner along with her backup vocalists really capture the spirit of Christmas in their beautiful rendition of each song. You can tell they sing from the heart, which invokes even more holiday cheer throughout the household!

Jingle All The Way is a holiday-themed music CD especially for children, but listeners of all ages will enjoy Rachel Sumner's vibrant performance of classic Christmas songs (plus her high-spirited original composition "I Can't Wait For Christmas"). The upbeat music, featuring the support of multiple band members, is perfect for getting into a festive holiday mood! Jingle All The Way is enhanced with three instrumental tracks ideal for sing-alongs, as well as song credits, lyrics, and a coloring sheet that can be accessed if the CD is placed in a computer....

I'm working on finishing my new recording "Jingle All The Way." I hope to have it available digitally before the holidays for sure. I may need to release it officially next year. An article in the Informer about my radio show

“Rachel’s Fun Time” radio show proves a sweet treat for kids across the globe through Radio Lollipop

(Nashville, TN) When songwriter and entertainer Rachel Sumner performs for youngsters in the Nashville area, it’s extremely common to see toothy grins, hear contagious giggles and high-pitched squeals of delight. Fortunately, children across the globe are now enjoying that same opportunity since Rachel’s Fun Time weekly radio show began broadcasting on the intercontinental airwaves of Radio Lollipop.

My "Tap Those Toes" CD was reviewed in School Library Journal

School Library Journal November 2011
Tap Those Toes. CD. 65:10 min. Rachel's Records. 2011. ISBN 978-1-886673-16-8. $15. PreS-Gr 3 - Award-winning performer Rachel Sumner's seventh album features 14 original and traditional songs and two stories. Excellent vocal and instrumental performances on keyboard, flute, mandolin, electric and acoustic guitars, bass, brass, drums, percussion, and washboard enhance the songs, which are performed in a variety of musical styles, including swing, jazz, reggae/ska, Latin, sea shanty, rock, and folk. "Tap Those Toes" and "Doctor Knickerbocker" include participatory movements. "All Around the World" teaches phrases from Spanish, French, German, and Japanese. "Funga Alafia" is a West African welcome song, and "La Mariposa" is a traditional Bolivian song. "Cookin' in the Kitchen" encourages listeners to perform on pots, pans, wooden spoons, turkey basters, and other kitchen implements.

Other songs include "The New Itsy Bitsy Spider," "I'd've Baked a Cake," "Goldilocks," "Dry Bones," "Catch the Reading Bug," and others. Sumner expressively reads two stories. An adaptation of a traditional African folktale, "Imani's Trick" tells how a conflict arose between the flamingoes and the crabs at the local watering hole, resulting in flamingoes learning to stand on one leg. In "Chester's Surprise," Chester Chipmunk learns that caterpillars metamorphose into butterflies. The enhanced CD contains lyrics, downloadable coloring sheets, and videos (how to make slide whistle sounds with a turkey baster and footage of caterpillars turning into butterflies). This exuberant album will be a great contribution to multicultural programs.

Tap Those Toes is a children's music CD featuring award-winning music and stories from Rachel Sumner. Educational as well as entertaining, Tap Those Toes features catchy, exuberant songs brimming with vigor and love. Putting the CD in one's computer yields bonus material: song lyrics, activities, pictures, and more. Highly recommended, especially for children's library collections.

New MP3s - A Retrospective especially for Rachel's adult fans

Do you enjoy country or jazz standards?

I've just released a few songs from past recordings I did for adults before my children's music career took off. They are available as MP3 downloads only for $.99 each and can be found by scrolling to the bottom of the page on my music link http://www.rachelsumner.com/music

I'm offering 4 songs right now and plan to offer more later:
Full Moon Full of Love
Rocky Top
Sweet Dreams
Besame Mucho

I just returned from a week tour working in Western PA for the Be Creative @ Your Library Summer Reading Concerts. The kids ranged from infants to 16-year-olds. It was wonderful to have the older kids participate. They played the washtub bass, canjos, balanced peacock feathers, and participated in the fashion show. I met a wonderful 8-year-old boy who heard me at the Jazz Festival in Erie 7 years ago. I made some new friends and got a few new chicken jokes that made me laugh.

Check out my music link http://www.rachelsumner.com/music and scroll down to Rachel's Lullabies Old & New. You can purchase CDs. I'm working on MP3s. It will probably be August before I can do this.

Rachel's Lullabies Old & New coming on CD and MP3 soon!

I've been working to produce this project on CD. The manufacturer that did my cassettes sold their company and my MASTER was in their warehouse! The company they sold it to couldn't find it so I have to go back to my safety reel-to-reel master, get it burned onto CD, and re-master it.

I'm working on new artwork right now. I hope to have it on CD in a couple of months and for MP3 download very soon.

Website and working on a new look

Watch for some big changes on my website. The nanny for two young fans of mine hooked me up with her talented son who has a passion for web design. His name is Michael McGuire. He lives in Rosemont, MI. I'm thrilled to have him working with me to help make my website look more aesthetically pleasing.

For a little while, you'll still find a mix of my old black web pages. I've grown EXTREMELY tired of looking at black and a mish-mosh of colored text.

My goal is to create a look that reflects the imagination of my work and captures my personality. I want it to be more visual, more fun, and provide information that is helpful to you.

It is a work in progress so let me know what you like or don't like and what you'd like to see on this site. What would be helpful to you as a fan, parent, teacher, or venue manager?

My new Master Artist Workshop-Cookin' In The Kitchen

I have a new Master Artist workshop with Wolf Trap called "Cookin' In The Kitchen." Participants learn how to play homemade kitchen instruments like wooden spoons, canjo (made out of two cans and fishing line), and a turkey baster. I instruct everyone on simple techniques to play them and how to use them in the classroom to teach curriculum topics.

I'm traveling to Virginia to present it in May and June. Call Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning in the Arts at (800) 404-8461 to book it at your Early Childhood Center. I present residencies too through them.

I've been excited about being selected as an Arts Integration Specialist with the Tennessee Arts Commission. We attended some fabulous training. Tennessee now has six new Arts Integrated schools. I hope to have the opportunity to do residencies at these schools.

I won the District 63 Toastmaster's Humorous Speech contest that was held in Sevierville, TN this fall.

I competed against 5 other excellent speakers from the district, which includes Middle and East TN, southern KY, and southern VA. I demonstrated some of my funny instruments and talked about how I burn everything I cook because the kitchen is filled with glorious distractions. Yes, the turkey baster was included! I also played a funny new instrument that I made. I call it a "Gluteus Rhythm Maker."

Adults are just big kids. They laughed as hard as the kids usually do. A couple of people couldn't stop giggling. They giggle right through the minute of silence after the speech while the judges tabulated the score. Giggling is such a lovely sound. Don't you agree?

Monday, August 15th, 2005 12:11 AM

I've added two Quicktime video clips of sign language from my instructional video. See one on the link Rachel's Music by scrolling down to the video and looking at the song Friends or type in my secret page http://www.rachelsumner.com/lyrics.html and view them at the bottom of the page!

Good news for Nashville fans, Davis-Kidd Booksellers in Nashville is carrying my recordings again.

Monday, May 26th, 2003 8:29 PM

Many of you know my sister Wendy since she performs with me now and then. She and her husband had their first child on May 24 at 1:15 AM. I was honored to be a coach during labor and the delivery with her husband. The labor was only 5 hours and 15 minutes. Wendy was incredible and the baby is a healthy 6 lbs. 7 1/2 oz girl. Her name is Serena Indira and she is beautiful. Both are at home now and doing well.

The Knowledge Tree stores are carrying my products now. They have 8 stores. Most of my products will be in the Memphis stores so call the other Knowledge Tree stores before you go. They can order my recordings, curriculum, and video if they don't have them in stock.

Tuesday, February 18th, 2003 10:37 PM

I went to northern California and performed for four children's hospitals and a center for children with physical challenges. It was a moving experience for me. A couple of children at the special needs center participated in ways they hadn't in the past. Their teachers were excited and couldn't wait to tell their parents. I'd also like to share a little bit of this lovely letter I received from one of the hospitals. I'm so happy to have such rewarding work.

"We thank Rachel so much for visiting our patients and their families. Her songs were such a success with the kids. Even the children who are traditionally the quietest and most withdrawn enjoyed and even laughed during her time with them. The beside visits we so successful and (names of two children in the immune-compromised unit) really perked up and smiled during her visit.

Such visits as hers enable us to engage patients and families in important "normal life experiences". Her special visit reminds us that even when children are hospitalized, they still need the involvement and connection of such activities."

Thursday, January 9th, 2003 9:22 PM

School Library Journal reviewed Join the Parade in their Dec. 2002 issue. Here is some of the review:
PreS-GR 2 - Rachel Sumner returns with her fourth Fun Time recording which offers a pleasing mix of upbeat music and spoken stories. Sumner has a voice that is particularly effective in broadcasting good cheer and energy. The mostly humorous and energetic songs are accompanied by a large number of instruments, including clarinet, cello, trombone, and trumpet. . . . Liner notes give the lyrics so that older children may sing along. What makes the recording so appealing is the inclusion of several re-tellings of traditional stories that Sumner performs with great verve, using different voices and sound effects to make the tales even more appealing. Sumner is a strong storyteller and an energetic performer on this enjoyable collection. - B. Allison Gray, South Country Library, Bellport, NY
